Best Laid Plans

“A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the Lord directeth his steps.” Proverbs 16:9   It is in the nature of humanity to make plans for the future. We observe how life functions, we see a way of life that appeals to us and then we spend the first two to three decades working towards that goal. Ideally these ends align with God’s will for our lives; however, most times our life plans place God as a side note. Paradoxically, even when our goal is to fulfil His directives. Let’s look at a classic example of the from Scripture.   Moses was born into slavery, and a death decree (Exodus 1:11-16, 22). By Divine providence he was adopted by the daughter of the king who had his people in bondage and had ordered that he was to die at birth (Exodus 2:2-6). Moses was raised and trained by his own mother until he was 12-years old then he went to live in the palace, where he received an education to be the next ruler of Egypt (Exodus 2:7-10). Deep in his mind he knew, from his ...

Social Justice

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" Matthew 7:3   Social justice movements have become the moral standard for the secular world. The removal of Scripture, as the moral standard, and replacing it with the feelings of various minority groups, is leading to mass violations of freedoms and the occurrence of gross injustices. Humanity, by our very nature, is evil. After Adam ate the fruit the only thing he could pass on to his progeny (us) is rebellion against God (Genesis 3; 4:3-8; 6:5). Therefore, when we remove the standard of God – the Bible (specifically the Ten Commandment Law) – from being our moral anchor we are destined to be carried away with every wind of feeling (Ephesians 4:11-15).   Because our churches crave the acceptance of wider society, we have also joined these movements and replaced the work God has assigned us, with the varied causes being championed by secular so...

The Temple of God II

“The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites, Who among us shall dwell with the Devouring Fire? Who among us shall dwell with everlasting Burnings? He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure” Isaiah 33:14-16   Mental corruptions… this can prove to be quite the challenge. Once something is seen it can’t be unseen. Our minds have this fascinating ability to retain information that was received once. Whether this information is present in our conscious or subconscious, it has the ability to impact our daily choices. It is said that during childhood (specifically the first 5 years) we absorb more information in our minds than we will th...

The Temple of God I

“But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.” Daniel 1:8   I was listening to a podcast about religion in the world and the topic was “Veganism”. I found the discussion very interesting. Two of the panellists were vegans and the other was a meat eater who chooses only to eat healthily farmed animals. Their discussion covered the gamut of reasons why veganism is best (FYI: The vegan diet, when followed strictly excludes some things that are good i.e honey and includes some things that are detrimental i.e. alcohol.). I want to address two reasons they mentioned that are biblical, the original diet and the mental wellbeing.   One of the panellists mentioned that the plant-based diet was the original diet according to the Bible and that the instructions in Genesis 9 were an accommodation ma...
