Social Justice

"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" Matthew 7:3

Social justice movements have become the moral standard for the secular world. The removal of Scripture, as the moral standard, and replacing it with the feelings of various minority groups, is leading to mass violations of freedoms and the occurrence of gross injustices. Humanity, by our very nature, is evil. After Adam ate the fruit the only thing he could pass on to his progeny (us) is rebellion against God (Genesis 3; 4:3-8; 6:5). Therefore, when we remove the standard of God – the Bible (specifically the Ten Commandment Law) – from being our moral anchor we are destined to be carried away with every wind of feeling (Ephesians 4:11-15).

Because our churches crave the acceptance of wider society, we have also joined these movements and replaced the work God has assigned us, with the varied causes being championed by secular society – dubbing it the “Social Gospel”. We imagine that we can win the world to Christ through the world’s methods and by supporting the causes that the world thinks needs to be addressed. This is fallacy. We cannot put ourselves in the place of God, by determining what we think needs to be done and how it should be done and expect God to work for and through us (2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4). All the social justice causes in the world today are symptoms of the deeply ingrained disease of sin (1 John 3:4). Until this root cause is addressed, all the ills and woes of society will remain (Genesis 4:7). As “people of The Book” it is our duty to show others the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).

In order to do the work, we have actually been called to do, we need to do some serious self-inspection (Matthew 28:19, 20). Instead of calling out wrongdoers in society, who do not profess belief in any truth, we need to be calling ourselves out on the inconsistencies in our organizations. Are we living up to Bible truth? Are our lives adhering to every word that proceeded from the mouth of God? Or, have the secular social justice issues invaded our church and blinded us to God’s expectations? This was the task given to the disciples before the Holy Spirit was poured out (Luke 24:49). They tarried in Jerusalem clearing away the remnants of the Pharisees’ and the Sadducees’ false teachings and reconciling issues among themselves, according to the Scriptures (Acts 1:12-26). This prepared them for the outpouring of the Holy Ghost that empowered them to do the work given.

As the disciples did, in preparation for the former rain, so it is our duty to do in preparation for the latter rain of the Holy Spirit (Joel 2:23; James 5:7).

Stay Focused!

The Seventh Commandment

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14   A preacher, I like listening to, presented this philosophy, ‘if we want to know what God expects study the pattern set in the first three chapters of Genesis’ (words to that effect). Because our goal is restoration to our Eden home this is an excellent plan. What then, is adultery? Based on scriptural descriptions, adultery covers all sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage (Leviticus 18; John 8:2-11). So then, what is marriage? Well, utilizing the above principle, Genesis 2:18-25 describes marriage as a covenant made before God and our community between one man and one woman. Any relationship outside of this covenant is not marriage; and therefore, any sexual activity outside of this bond is adultery.   Adultery, however, is not limited to physical acts with inappropriate partners; Jesus taught that the thoughts that lead to those acts also bring condemnation (Matthew 5:27, 28). Because we are visual creatur...

"Not Now [Working] to Bring Many Souls Into Truth"

In our churches there is this running theme of winning souls to “hasten the Lord’s return”. But there is a major error in our thought process. We cannot in our own strength “win” souls to Christ. The Holy Spirit is to lead us in this work. And the Holy Spirit is not leading and will not lead us in our present condition. The prophet for our time gave us this warning: “There is a message regarding health reform to be borne in every church. There is a work to be done in every school. Neither principal nor teachers should be entrusted with the education of the youth until they have a practical knowledge of this subject. Some have felt at liberty to criticize and question and find fault with health reform principles of which they knew little by experience. They should stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, with those who are working in right lines.   {6T 370.2}        The subject of health reform has been presented in the churches; but the light ...

Practical Faith

In Scripture the definition of faith is as follows: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . Hebrews 11:1” This same chapter also informs us: “But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6” Scripture also tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us : And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him . 1 John 5:14-15” Jesus also instructs us: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you . Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:23-24” These are just a few passages of scripture among many that encourage us...
