"And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s
eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" Matthew 7:3
Social justice movements have become the moral standard for
the secular world. The removal of Scripture, as the moral standard, and
replacing it with the feelings of various minority groups, is leading to mass
violations of freedoms and the occurrence of gross injustices. Humanity, by our
very nature, is evil. After Adam ate the fruit the only thing he could pass on
to his progeny (us) is rebellion against God (Genesis 3; 4:3-8; 6:5).
Therefore, when we remove the standard of God – the Bible (specifically the Ten Commandment Law) – from being our moral anchor we are destined to be carried
away with every wind of feeling (Ephesians 4:11-15).
Because our churches crave the acceptance of wider society,
we have also joined these movements and replaced the work God has assigned us,
with the varied causes being championed by secular society – dubbing it the
“Social Gospel”. We imagine that we can win the world to Christ through the
world’s methods and by supporting the causes that the world thinks needs to be
addressed. This is fallacy. We cannot put ourselves in the place of God, by
determining what we think needs to be done and how it should be done and expect
God to work for and through us (2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4). All the social justice
causes in the world today are symptoms of the deeply ingrained disease of sin
(1 John 3:4). Until this root cause is addressed, all the ills and woes of
society will remain (Genesis 4:7). As “people of The Book” it is our duty to
show others the Way, the Truth and the Life (John 14:6).
In order to do the work, we have actually been called to do,
we need to do some serious self-inspection (Matthew 28:19, 20). Instead of
calling out wrongdoers in society, who do not profess belief in any truth, we
need to be calling ourselves out on the inconsistencies in our organizations.
Are we living up to Bible truth? Are our lives adhering to every word that
proceeded from the mouth of God? Or, have the secular social justice issues invaded
our church and blinded us to God’s expectations? This was the task given to the
disciples before the Holy Spirit was poured out (Luke 24:49). They tarried in
Jerusalem clearing away the remnants of the Pharisees’ and the Sadducees’ false
teachings and reconciling issues among themselves, according to the Scriptures (Acts
1:12-26). This prepared them for the outpouring of the Holy Ghost that empowered
them to do the work given.
As the disciples did, in preparation for the former rain, so
it is our duty to do in preparation for the latter rain of the Holy Spirit
(Joel 2:23; James 5:7).
Stay Focused!
