"Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six." Revelation 13:18

Another part of the 2300-day prophecy of Daniel 8 is the 1260-day prophecy. In this time the little horn/seven headed amalgam beast would speak great things, blaspheme God by assuming the ‘place of God Almighty on earth’ – “Vicarius filii Dei” – and “think to change times and laws” – 10 commandments (Daniel 7:25; 2 Thessalonians 2:3, 4; Revelation 13:1). This was fulfilled on time when the emperor of Rome gave his power, seat and authority to the Pope in 538ad (Revelation 13:2). For 1260 years all of Western Europe was subjected to the tyranny of the Roman Catholic Church. Kings were humiliated, the bible was forbidden, literacy was abominably low and people, adhering to Biblical Christianity, were driven into hiding to avoid torture and a painful death (GC 51.3; 57.3). On the 31st October 1517 the Roman church received the first major hit in its tyrannical reign bringing gradual relief to God’s people (GC 129.2). The Word of God began to be restored to the people through the work of Martin Luther and the subsequent reformers.

They struggled, unsuccessfully, to maintain control on the people of Europe with various plots and schemes. For example, the Gunpowder plot of 1605 was in an effort to stop the publication of the English translation of the Bible commissioned by King James I (published in 1611). However, on Schedule, in 1798, 1260 years after taking power, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church was taken into captivity, under the command of the French Emperor Napoleon, by his general Berthier (GC 439.2). This is in direct fulfilment of the prophecy in Revelation 13:10, “He that leadeth into captivity shall go into captivity”. After this deadly wound was inflicted the power of the Roman church began to decompose. They lost their lands, their influence over world leaders, were actively hated by many nations and remained a shell of their former existence for nearly two centuries.

However, Scripture tells us that this deadly wound would be healed (Revelation 13:3). Anyone who has received a cut knows that wounds take time to heal. And this wound was mortal. The deadly wound of the Roman Church marked its healing in 1929 when the church received a small acreage of land in the middle of Rome through the Lateran Treaty. Like the national equivalent of a man possessed, the church again joined the ranks of civil authorities as a sovereign, independent nation (Revelation 12:3, 9; 13:2; 17:3). The pope is the only religious leader that has a seat at the United Nations and is able to address all world leaders with his agenda (Revelation 17:1-5). From this vantage point the church has steadily grown in acceptance by world leaders, formerly protestant church leaders, and has again amassed great influence among people, giving opinions and supporting worldwide movements to bring about its agenda.

The Seventh Commandment

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14   A preacher, I like listening to, presented this philosophy, ‘if we want to know what God expects study the pattern set in the first three chapters of Genesis’ (words to that effect). Because our goal is restoration to our Eden home this is an excellent plan. What then, is adultery? Based on scriptural descriptions, adultery covers all sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage (Leviticus 18; John 8:2-11). So then, what is marriage? Well, utilizing the above principle, Genesis 2:18-25 describes marriage as a covenant made before God and our community between one man and one woman. Any relationship outside of this covenant is not marriage; and therefore, any sexual activity outside of this bond is adultery.   Adultery, however, is not limited to physical acts with inappropriate partners; Jesus taught that the thoughts that lead to those acts also bring condemnation (Matthew 5:27, 28). Because we are visual creatur...

"Not Now [Working] to Bring Many Souls Into Truth"

In our churches there is this running theme of winning souls to “hasten the Lord’s return”. But there is a major error in our thought process. We cannot in our own strength “win” souls to Christ. The Holy Spirit is to lead us in this work. And the Holy Spirit is not leading and will not lead us in our present condition. The prophet for our time gave us this warning: “There is a message regarding health reform to be borne in every church. There is a work to be done in every school. Neither principal nor teachers should be entrusted with the education of the youth until they have a practical knowledge of this subject. Some have felt at liberty to criticize and question and find fault with health reform principles of which they knew little by experience. They should stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, with those who are working in right lines.   {6T 370.2}        The subject of health reform has been presented in the churches; but the light ...

Practical Faith

In Scripture the definition of faith is as follows: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . Hebrews 11:1” This same chapter also informs us: “But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6” Scripture also tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us : And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him . 1 John 5:14-15” Jesus also instructs us: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you . Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:23-24” These are just a few passages of scripture among many that encourage us...
