1844

"Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the Lord." Leviticus 23:27

The 1260-day prophecy brought us up to 1798 but the entire prophecy timeline is 2300 years which brings us to 1844. What great event happened in 1844 of which we all need to take a note? Daniel was told: “Unto two thousand and three hundred days; then shall the sanctuary be cleansed” (Daniel 8:14). As a faithful Jew, Daniel associated the phrase “sanctuary be cleansed” with the temple services in Jerusalem (Leviticus 23). The first temple in Jerusalem was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar’s army when Judah was taken into captivity. This message caused Daniel to panic, because Jeremiah had prophesied only 70 years of captivity (Jeremiah 29:10; Daniel 9:2). Had they done something to extend their time in exile?

The angel Gabriel came to Daniel and informed him that this vision was for the time of the end not for his time (Daniel 8:15-17). For many centuries no one really understood this vision because God had sealed it up for the generation to whom it affected (Daniel 12:4). A few years prior to the completion of this longest time prophecy of the Bible, a Baptist farmer named William Miller began to study the prophecies of Daniel. After reading this specific prophecy and history books he came to the conclusion that Jesus would return to the earth in 1844. His calculations were precise, but the conclusion flawed. He formed this conclusion because he assumed the earth was the sanctuary. Many were overjoyed at the thought of Jesus’ return and made preparations for the event. The outcome was the great disappointment of 1844, which was foreseen by John in his Revelation vision (Revelation 10:8-11).

After this many forsook the idea of Jesus’ literal return and various different ideas of the earth’s future crept into the Christian church. A small handful of believers continued studying and realized that the earthly sanctuary was a copy of the real one in Heaven (Hebrews 8:1-5). Meaning all those sanctuary services were representative of actual events. The sanctuary in Heaven is the one that is being cleansed. On the day of atonement in the Israelite calendar all the sins confessed throughout the year was removed from the temple on the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16). You may say, what uncleanness is in Heaven? Well, every action we commit, whether good or evil, is written next to our names in the books in Heaven (Exodus 32:32, 33; Matthew 12:36). Every confession and repentance we have made has also been recorded in Heaven (Acts 3:19; Hebrews 4:15, 16). In 1844 a reconciliation of these records began. First with those that are already dead to be followed by those who are still alive (Daniel 7:10; Revelation 3:5; Revelation 20:12).

It has now been 175 years since this investigative judgement began. In the grand scheme of earth’s ~6000-years history and our mere 70 years of life, this has not been very long (Abraham’s life span). It behoves us to live in a state of readiness, because the final movements are rapid (Revelation 12:12; 9T 11.2). The standard by which we are being judged are Jesus’ words (John 12:47, 48; Exodus 20:6). Specifically, His 10-commandment law of love (Mark 10:17-19; Luke 10:25-28; 1 John 5:3; John 14:15, 21; 15:10). When Jesus returns, He is coming for a church without “spot or wrinkle”, with rewards to give “every man according to his works” (Ephesians 5:27; Matthew 16:27; Revelation 22:12). Please yield to the working of the Holy Spirit (John 16:13; 1 Corinthians 2:13).

Be Ready, Be Ready, Be Ready!

The Seventh Commandment

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14   A preacher, I like listening to, presented this philosophy, ‘if we want to know what God expects study the pattern set in the first three chapters of Genesis’ (words to that effect). Because our goal is restoration to our Eden home this is an excellent plan. What then, is adultery? Based on scriptural descriptions, adultery covers all sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage (Leviticus 18; John 8:2-11). So then, what is marriage? Well, utilizing the above principle, Genesis 2:18-25 describes marriage as a covenant made before God and our community between one man and one woman. Any relationship outside of this covenant is not marriage; and therefore, any sexual activity outside of this bond is adultery.   Adultery, however, is not limited to physical acts with inappropriate partners; Jesus taught that the thoughts that lead to those acts also bring condemnation (Matthew 5:27, 28). Because we are visual creatur...

"Not Now [Working] to Bring Many Souls Into Truth"

In our churches there is this running theme of winning souls to “hasten the Lord’s return”. But there is a major error in our thought process. We cannot in our own strength “win” souls to Christ. The Holy Spirit is to lead us in this work. And the Holy Spirit is not leading and will not lead us in our present condition. The prophet for our time gave us this warning: “There is a message regarding health reform to be borne in every church. There is a work to be done in every school. Neither principal nor teachers should be entrusted with the education of the youth until they have a practical knowledge of this subject. Some have felt at liberty to criticize and question and find fault with health reform principles of which they knew little by experience. They should stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, with those who are working in right lines.   {6T 370.2}        The subject of health reform has been presented in the churches; but the light ...

Practical Faith

In Scripture the definition of faith is as follows: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . Hebrews 11:1” This same chapter also informs us: “But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6” Scripture also tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us : And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him . 1 John 5:14-15” Jesus also instructs us: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you . Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:23-24” These are just a few passages of scripture among many that encourage us...
