“Time No Longer”

“And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.” Luke 21:28

We find ourselves living in a curious span of earth’s sinful history. As Jesus stated, the time of His return will be similar to the times of Noah and Lot (Matthew 24:37; Luke 17:26-28). We definitely see an amplification of continually evil thoughts, idleness, selfishness, gluttony and scoffing (Genesis 6:5; Ezekiel 16:49; 2 Peter 3:3-7). However, in addition to these signs, another trait of these grand events, that our time shares, is that no precise timing has been given for the fulfilment of these events (Matthew 25:13). The flood was marked by the death of Methuselah, but it didn’t come the day he died (Genesis 7). Lot knew Sodom and Gomorrah would be destroyed but he didn’t know when until the angels came to remove him (Genesis 19). Every other major event has had a precise time span, even to the point that Josiah Litch could pinpoint the date that the Ottoman empire would submit to Europe (Revelation 9:15).

Since the close of the 2300-day prophecy in Autumn 1844 we have no more time prophecies to track (Revelation 10:6). Like Noah and Lot, we have events to observe and a message to give. Just as Noah and Lot warned their families and neighbours of impending doom so we are to warn our families and neighbours of the judgement and coming King (Luke21:20-28). Jesus’ warning to us is simply to WATCH! We are to watch for the signs unfolding and live in a state of preparedness (Mark 13:32-37). We are to become so connected to God that we can hear His every instruction on how and when to move (Isaiah 30:21). It behoves us to learn from Lot’s experience and not have to be dragged out of this world losing our families in the process (Genesis 19:12-25).

As we see the signs Jesus warned us of unfolding, it is our duty, in whatever walk of life we find ourselves, to live prepared, warning our family, friends and neighbours of what is ahead (2 Timothy 4:2). We do not know when Jesus is coming but we do know the signs we are to look for, scoffers arising, wars and rumours of wars, the rise of a power seeking to unify to world in false worship, the assembly of a pure people preaching God’s final message of warning, etc. (Isaiah 56:9-12; 2 Peter 3:3; Matthew 24:6, 7, 33; Luke 21: 10, 11; Revelation 17:7-13; Revelation 14:1-12). Like Noah, as we see these signs fulfilling, the urgency to spread the gospel truth should rise with the intensity of events. Let us get ready and live ready, studying earnestly and sharing the Word of our Heavenly Father with everyone we meet (2 Timothy 2:15).

Watch!

The Seventh Commandment

“Thou shalt not commit adultery.” Exodus 20:14   A preacher, I like listening to, presented this philosophy, ‘if we want to know what God expects study the pattern set in the first three chapters of Genesis’ (words to that effect). Because our goal is restoration to our Eden home this is an excellent plan. What then, is adultery? Based on scriptural descriptions, adultery covers all sexual activity outside the bonds of marriage (Leviticus 18; John 8:2-11). So then, what is marriage? Well, utilizing the above principle, Genesis 2:18-25 describes marriage as a covenant made before God and our community between one man and one woman. Any relationship outside of this covenant is not marriage; and therefore, any sexual activity outside of this bond is adultery.   Adultery, however, is not limited to physical acts with inappropriate partners; Jesus taught that the thoughts that lead to those acts also bring condemnation (Matthew 5:27, 28). Because we are visual creatur...

"Not Now [Working] to Bring Many Souls Into Truth"

In our churches there is this running theme of winning souls to “hasten the Lord’s return”. But there is a major error in our thought process. We cannot in our own strength “win” souls to Christ. The Holy Spirit is to lead us in this work. And the Holy Spirit is not leading and will not lead us in our present condition. The prophet for our time gave us this warning: “There is a message regarding health reform to be borne in every church. There is a work to be done in every school. Neither principal nor teachers should be entrusted with the education of the youth until they have a practical knowledge of this subject. Some have felt at liberty to criticize and question and find fault with health reform principles of which they knew little by experience. They should stand shoulder to shoulder, heart to heart, with those who are working in right lines.   {6T 370.2}        The subject of health reform has been presented in the churches; but the light ...

Practical Faith

In Scripture the definition of faith is as follows: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen . Hebrews 11:1” This same chapter also informs us: “But without faith it is impossible to please him : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6” Scripture also tells us: “And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us : And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him . 1 John 5:14-15” Jesus also instructs us: “And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you . Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full. John 16:23-24” These are just a few passages of scripture among many that encourage us...
